On September 14 - 24, 2003 in Vladivostok was carried out a visit of serious experts in the history of fortification
presented volunteer non-profit organization Coast Defense Study Group. The group consisted of eight
American specialists included an author of well known book about Panama Canal defenses Terrance McGovern,
authors of numerous articles about the coast defense of the U.S. Glen Williford and Gary Paliwoda and researcher
from Switzerland Martin Egger, an editor of well known book of document materials "Festung Sevastopol". Foreign experts
have inspected collection of an ordnance of the Military-Historical Museum of the Pacific Fleet, the
Museum of Vladivostok Fortress, official excursion site Fort No. 7 and also a department of the
Museum of the Pacific Fleet "Voroshylov' Battery" at the Russian Islands. The investigators have visited also the group o
f Petropavlovsk Batteries, Stronghold No. 1, Fort No. 3, former fixed batteries of Artemovsky Sector of the
Coast Defense and inspected a series of other defenses at Muraviev-Amursky Peninsula and Russian, Elena and Shkot Islands.
The group has carried out a tour to Vitiaz Bay in order to see fortification sightseeing of Gamov Peninsula.
Along with mention of the U.S. experts the defenses of Vladivostok and vicinity are very interesting for
all the persons interesting in the history of fortification while special interest are presented the intact
turrets of 305 mm Battery No. 981 (Voroshilov' Battery) and also the turrets of 180 mm Battery No. 220 at Gamov Peninsula.
Martin Egger specially noted that in Vladivostok and vicinity the interesting fortification structures are placed
within splendor nature that is very attractive for mass tourism. The tour was organized by the Military Historical Club
"Vladivostok Fortress" and the tourist company "Breeze Tour" under support by Vladimir Saprykin, Vice-Major of Vladivostok.
Along with results of the tour is suggested to publish a series of the articles in leading historical-fortification editions of the U.S. and Western Europe that ultimately will increase a tourist attractiveness of Vladivostok. The report by the
